Roblox Rolls Out User Age Verification System

Roblox is already integrating a new user age verification system that is called to protect younger players from content and features made for adults. Currently, age verification is optional and doesn’t store any sensitive user data on the game servers. Catch the details below.

Does it Make a Difference?

The only feature in the game that doesn’t work without age verification already is the new Spacial Chat, which is a Roblox vision of a popular voice room option. It’s currently in the beta-testing phase and lets in only users who can prove they are older than 13 years old. The developer doesn’t clarify whether age limitations are left in the full version.

Potential Implications

It’s currently not quite clear, but it seems that Roblox will block younger users from particular community tools and game rooms if it decides that there’s anything potentially harmful. Over 50% of the entire player base are kids under 13 years old, and this may lead to a significant drop in daily active players.

Verification Requirements

The new age verification system requires users to upload any relevant document, such as a passport, driver’s license, or ID card. Besides, it’s necessary to upload a selfie for identity confirmation. The game currently accepts only government-issued IDs, which are not quite common for younger audiences, especially in areas, where it’s difficult to obtain.

Already in Charge

Age verification is already launched for gamers worldwide, so we only have to wait until the developer reveals its revenues by the end of the year. Hopefully, for Roblox, the update won’t seriously affect the popularity of the game. What are your expectations? Share the piece with other players and reply in the comments section below.
