List of Most Downloaded Apps in 2021

It looks like there are new winners in town. Apptopia service analyzed downloads made by the owners of Android and iOS around the world to find out the most popular options. Unsurprisingly, TikTok became the most downloaded app in 2021 around the world. Among the winners are Google Maps, Netflix, and Spotify.

It is no surprise that TikTok became a leader of the list of most downloaded apps, considering its huge popularity during the year. In 2021 the app was downloaded more than 656 million times on different phones. The app is followed by Instagram and Facebook, which is currently Meta. WhatsApp and Telegram are slightly behind.

Netflix is the leader in the distribution category and the most downloaded entertainment service. Shopping apps were on-demand in 2021 as well. The obvious leader is Shopee, kicking out the Amazon store from the list of top-3. As for the traveling apps, Google Maps is the most wanted service. Nothing still can beat Spotify when it comes to music apps.

As for the world of games, Subway Surfer with 191 million downloads heads the chart. It is followed by the Roblox platform with 182 million downloads. Bridge Race with 169 million new users is in 3rd place. Garena Free Fire has 144 million new downloads, while Among Us has 154 million. Unfortunately, Battlegrounds Mobile India and PUBG Mobile did not make it to the top-10 list.

Netflix is on top of popularity among streaming services. It was downloaded 173 million times. YouTube was downloaded 166 million times per the 2021 year. Google Play Games has 131 million downloads, while Disney+ has 126 million. Together with Amazon Prime Video with 120 million downloads, they became the most popular entertainment apps around the world in 2021.
