Gmail to Be Redesigned for Regular Google Account Users

Gmail redesign Google announced recently for Workspace accounts now goes further. The new design is now rolling out to regular free accounts, which means the redesign is global. Let’s see how the Material You version of Gmail looks and how to use it if you suddenly feel lost in it.

The new interface follows the general Material You guidelines and plans. It looks great on tablets and on phones, in case you for some reason don’t want to use the Gmail app. First of all, though, it is still meant for computers. The in-browser experience is optimized to open fewer windows, so apps open in smaller pop-up windows, and as they are contact-based, you can choose whatever method of contact you need with a certain contact or a group of contacts.

Among the new features, there is a collapsible panel for Google apps that are accessible from Gmail. When this panel is open, you can have multiple active Google apps and switch between them. The apps include Google Meet, Spaces, Chat, and Mail, and others can be added. As for the Mail interface, the main part of the Gmail web version, it retains the same usability, though the lines become finer, and the overall interface seems more lightweight.

The new view was initially planned to be updated for all the Workspace accounts, from the most basic one Business Starter and Nonprofit to the most advanced Enterprise types of account. But now it’s announced for everyone, the rollout of the new design will start on February 28, 2022. So, in a week you can start checking whether your Gmail account got a different look. To do so, you need to go to Settings, then to Quick Settings, and then activate the ”Try out the new Gmail view”.

Have you seen the preview? Do you like the new appearance and usability of the new interface? Are you looking forward to it? Tell us what you think about it in our comments section!
