Get in Touch With Friends Using Video Call Links

Popular messengers make it easy for users to connect with friends using quick group links. Thanks to them, you can even call contacts that are not in your address book. Now WhatsApp clients have such opportunities as well.

The group call feature is handy if you want to spend an evening with friends or have a work meeting. You may not always have contacts of all potential participants. Group links open up the possibility for you to share a group chat and invite absolutely any WhatsApp user to the call. This feature was added to the app very recently, and according to the developers, it will take about a week to roll out. So if you don’t see the new tool in your settings yet, you need to either update the messenger or wait a bit.

To create a link, you need to go to the calls tab, and at the very top of the list, you will see the option “Create call link.” Just tap it and share the link in a message with the right person. The recipient will need to click on it, and they will be automatically transferred to a voice or video chat with you. The link generated in this way remains active for 90 days. You will soon be able to create group calls for up to 32 participants when the developers finish testing encrypted chats.

At the moment, if users do not have WhatsApp when clicking on such a link, they will be prompted to install the application on their devices. As a reminder, competitors such as Zoom and Google Meet allow you to use links to invite people to the call who do not have profiles on these platforms. It is not yet clear if there are plans to expand the capabilities of this WhatsApp feature. It would also be nice if the developers added the opportunity to schedule calls by analogy with Zoom and FaceTime.

If you have already had a chance to test the new functionality, please share your impressions! What improvements would you add?
