Thunderbolts Trailer Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2024: A First Look at Marvel's Latest Antihero Ensemble

Marvel fans are in for a treat as the first trailer for the highly anticipated Thunderbolts movie has made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. Although shown behind closed doors, GamesRadar+ was on site in Hall H to provide an exclusive overview of the sneak peek.

In the fresh footage, Yelena pays a visit to Red Guardian's apartment and confides that her motivation in life is tied to her perilous assignments. Soon, they come across the other members of the Thunderbolts team, including Bucky Barnes, John Walker, Ghost, and Taskmaster. As the group convenes, they come to the startling realization that they have all been tasked with the same hazardous mission, prompting them to question the reasoning behind it.

This ensemble of antiheroes, many of whom have played antagonistic roles at various points within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is employed for undercover government operations. The cast features Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus reprising her role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Additionally, Harrison Ford steps in to replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, also known as Red Hulk, a role he will initially portray in Captain America: Brave New World.

The film is directed by Jake Schreier, known for helming Paper Towns, with a freshly rewritten script by Lee Sung Jin, the creator of Netflix's Beef, adapting the initial draft penned by Black Widow screenwriter Eric Pearson.

Set to hit theaters on May 5, 2025, Thunderbolts promises to be a thrilling addition to the MCU. To prepare, fans can catch up on the existing storyline with guides to Marvel Phase 5 and previews of the upcoming Phase 6.
