Steam Will Tell Users How Much Space a Game Takes Before Installation
Valve is introducing a minor change to Steam that can make a big difference for millions of users. The platform, which is home to thousands and thousands of titles from big-time development companies and small publishers alike, will now let users find out how much storage space each game will need without trying to install it first. The new feature will be most handy for the busiest and most active gamers who have limited space on their hard disks or SSDs.
Before this update, the only way for users to learn the actual size of the game was to click the Install button. The new detail will be tagged "Space Required" and will substitute for the "Last Played" element on the game listings in the Steam library. Such interference is justified as it just makes more sense for the user to see how much real estate the game will take up than to know when it was last launched, especially if the hard drive is already cramped.
Any player who is a member of the Steam beta client program can start using the new functionality right now. For them, the "Last Played" element has already been withdrawn and instead indicates how much storage space will be required by the game. Users can find instructions for the new feature on the Steam support page. A switch between the current Steam version and the beta version of the platform can be made in the Steam menu once the person has signed up for the beta program.
The “Last Played” element has not been removed completely, only made a little less easy to locate. It is still available in the “Sort by” menu. By clicking on it, the user will see all the games in their Steam library along with the times they were last played.
