Snapchat Are Working on New Ways to Protect Teens

The problem of online security for kids and teenagers has been an important topic for a while now. The social media giants, such as Facebook and Instagram have already been criticized for the lack of instruments that would help protect impressionable young people from cyber bullying and other threats. According to Snapchat, the company is working on developing family safety tools to ensure a safer experience.

Just recently, the CEO of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel, had an interview with WSJ Tech Live and mentioned that it is one of the main goals for the company to create ‘a dialogue between parents and their children’ when it comes to how they are using the application. Snapchat is currently developing a new parental control system that is called ‘Family Center.’

At the moment, the representatives of the company are silent when it comes to further details of this parental control system. They mentioned that the intention is to create tools that will not only help but also won’t have a negative impact on data security or privacy. Also, such developments are supposed to be free of charge, which is good news.

A month ago, Snapchat hired a new professional for the company — Global Head of Platform Safety. It is obvious that enhancing online safety is currently one of the main focuses of the company, so we can expect some positive changes soon. Spiegel mentioned that it is highly important for businesses to focus on promoting the wellbeing of the community and help regulators. The CEO of Snapchat hopes that the new Family Center will bring more protection to teens without compromising privacy.
