Miya Cech Cast as Toph Beifong in Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 as Production Begins

Netflix recently made an exciting announcement during its Geeked Week live show: Miya Cech has been cast as Toph Beifong for the second season of the live-action reimagining of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The announcement included a brief video showcasing Toph, featuring her feet and a spectacular Earthbending move. This clip also indicated that the development of Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 is officially underway.

While many beloved characters from Avatar have already appeared in the first season, including Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Azula, Toph was not introduced until Season 2 in the animated series, making her absence noticeable thus far. The excitement surrounding her casting reflects fans' admiration for the strong-willed Earthbender, who was originally voiced by Michaela Jill Murphy in the cartoon.

Cech joins a returning ensemble that includes Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, together with Daniel Dae Kim. While a release date for the new season hasn't been provided by Netflix, the recent start of production suggests it may be some time before it is available.

Filming for the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender is now officially underway!

The reception of Season 1 was mixed, yet the series enjoyed sufficiently strong viewership that Netflix opted to renew it for two more seasons in March. IGN rated the first season 7/10, commenting that it adds valuable narrative depth to the original tale, although the swift pacing, heavy exposition, and inconsistent visual effects created some unevenness.
